I always wondered what organization I could be a part of. I have pondered different ways to give back to my African community, to love and support the cause, but I never found something that stuck with me. So I started looking within to find what cause meant the most to me. I have been through a couple of very difficult things: miscarriage, divorce, death of a sibling, losing all of my property in a house fire, and different forms of abuse and molestation, but the one thing that always battled with was that disconnect that comes from not being fully in touch with oneself. People say love yourself. However, I'd rephrase it to say 'Love the uniqueness in yourself, your talent, abilities, and strengths, and knowing your weaknesses. It begins with understanding who you are 'SELF-IDENTITY' and then loving you comes shortly after. 'You can't love someone you don't know,' said my life coach back in 2022 when nothing seemed to make sense.
The only thing that mattered back then was chic fil-A ( spicy deluxe meal with a lemonade and extra chich fil-A sauce). I spent so much time and money I could've bought the franchise. But although I have been through a fair amount of challenges in life, the one that matters to me the most is the intellectual disconnect that I and several others feel. If someone asked you a question as simple as What do you absolutely love? ', what would your response be without thinking too hard? Not what you do or try to love or think you love; what keeps that fire within you burning? Once I saw how passionate I was about self-validation and embracing our identity, I realized that those parts of me are ignited by doing what I love. I love modeling, acting, creating, fashion, blogging, writing, and decorating. designing, etc., all things style and more style, so don't ask me why I was almost in Medical school.
The 'BE UNIQUE' scholarship is a non-profit organization that seeks to support talented black women. Her goal is to build young black women confident in their unique abilities and who see value within themselves as separate from what society thinks. I started building on this endeavor in Cameroon and plan to take 'BE UNIQUE to the next level. If you take one thing from this, read, BE UNIQUE' be yourself, be that person that is ignited, loves, laughs, genuinely appreciates HER/HIS life, and does not allow external sources to dim the light you carry.
